FOGBEE Christmas Lights Ride: Thursday Dec 23'rd 6:30 pm from Jollie Ollies

Click button is lower right-hand corner of YouTube for FULL SCREEN

It's time for Bruce's Annual Christmas Lights Evening Ride. If there is enough interest we may even talk Bruce into repeating. Our first year we rode in the FOG (appropriate for FOGBEES). We had to get real close to the houses to see. Last year's tour got canceled. But, we have this year. The city has a Christmas Light Boat Parade. Too bad we couldn't have Christmas Light Bike Parade. HINT!

Need some lights! Here's a link to what Bruce found for ONLY $1.37. Even the tightwads in the group can afford that price. H'vlle Lowes Lights are SOLD OUT. Must go to Home Depot. Better product but costs $5.97.

Here's my suggestion  for this year's ride.  There are fewer decorated homes this year but still some spectacular ones.  The tip of the Indian Lake Peninsula has several but requires a ten mile round trip to get there from any of the others.   Mapped starting point is from Kmart but the start finish is from Jollie Ollies, old Big Looy's.

Bob asked me to POST that wants to join the evening tour. I told him we had to start at the Griswolds who live up the street from me.

Awesome video, bringing a little joy into peoples busy lives. Makes you stop and remember what the season is all about. Maybe we can encourage the Postman to do a "light" ride too?

I'd love to go on a Christmas Lights ride if my schedule allows.

I will be in town. Let me know when.

I'd love to lead another Holiday Lights ride. Thursday Dec 23 looks the best date for availability and weather assuming any credence to a forecast that far away. That would also give Bob or Tom time to electrify a bike.
This is the ride we did in 2008.
It was based on some scouting for good lights. Suggestions for route, time and date welcome.

Any suggestions on where I can get some lights?

8 Energizer Bunny Cells, an inverter, and a $9 string of KMart LED Christmas lights makes one fine Christmas Tree on two wheels.

I hope to make it--sounds like fun.

So Dec 23rd is acceptable date for some of us. The posted route was based on leaving from Big Looy's (Ahh, the good old days when I was younger and beer was cheaper.) and the best concentration neighborhoods with the most lighting that year. A lot has changed in 2 years. I'll scout the the local Hendersonville area tonight and draw another route, this time assuming leaving from Sam's Sports bar or Kmart parking lot. How does leaving at 6:30 pm sound? The worst of the afternoon traffic should be over and hopefully it won't be too cold or wet.
James C and I are probably the only folks with bikes that would accommodate Tom's suggested setup, though I'd use my emergency booster battery that has an outlet to fit my inverter. However, Lowe's has strings of 10 led lights powered by 3 AA batteries that will save about 20 pounds. I will illuminate at least my jacket and legs.
A decent headlight and tailight are assumed. We will go through some dark places.

I plan to ride. Probably just with normal lights.

Do we have a start time?

6:30 is good for me. Thanks for organizing the ride. I don't know if I will have a chance to Christmasfy my bike. In any case, I will get to show off my new generator hub and light setup I use for commuting.

Hey Y'all, I plan to make our own VIRAL FOGBEE video to post on YouTube and FACEBOOK. So if you don't come electrified, wear your best reindeer ears or Santa outfit. We are also planning a FOGBEE party at Jollie Ollie afterwards. But DO COME anyway.

Ronnie and I are planning on being there.

The following from a Bruce email is worth sharing:

Also James Crowley has offered his utility bike trailer as a float for our Holiday lights ride and is to appear at my door any moment to be outfitted with battery, inverter, boom box setup envisioned by Tom, with the addition of a Christmas tree.

Without the slightest doubt I knew Dr Jerry-Rig would excel at this most excellent adventure. Mr Duck-Tape who is town for this holiday has been quiet. Can he surpass Dr. Jerry-Rig? Show up on Thursday evening to find out.

And then there is Griswold who lives up the street from me. Will he pull icicles from his fascia to put on his bike?

Will be out in WA, sorry I'm going to miss it. I want to see lots of pictures.

Gary,
You can make it after all! Great.
Everyone:
Layer up. It will be cold and we will not be riding hard enough to generate a lot of heat. The plan is to assemble at Jolly Ollie's at 6:30 pm, have a video/photo op and discuss the route. If we want to include the Streets on Indian Lake we will need to alter the order of the neighborhoods a bit and it will add about 4 miles to the route, making it a 16 mile ride total. See you there.
