The United States Bicycle Route System (USBRS) is a partially implemented network of interstate bicycle routes designed for long distance bicycle touring. USBRS routes are selected for their safety, comfort, scenic beauty, and access to exciting destinations and useful services. In many states, the USBRS is actively being mapped, signed, and put to good use. Bike/Walk Tennessee is working with TDOT, local municipalities and neighboring states to bring the USBRS to Middle Tennessee.

The first route under development in Tennessee is USBR 23, which will connect Franklin, KY with Ardmore, AL via White House, Nashville, Franklin and Lewisburg.   The route will eventually span the country from Detroit, MI to the Gulf Coast with transfers to the TransAmerica Trail and several other USBR east-west routes along the way.

On February 12,  Walk/Bike Nashville, the Oasis Bike Workshop, and advocates Bruce Day and Dave Shumaker from Bike/Walk Tennessee will provide background information about the USBRS, an overview of the process of getting routes approved by AASHTO, and an update of current progress in Tennessee.

Then, we need the input of experienced cyclists to help determine the route through Davidson and Williamson Counties that contains the perfect mix of good bike facilities, beautiful scenery, local flavor, and proximity to groceries and restaurants, coffee shops and bars, hostels and campgrounds.

Maps will be provided for breakout work groups.

Help make USBR 23 a reality.  Join us at 6:00 PM on February 12 to be a part of the conversation.
