Update on Kim

With a rough start to the 2016 riding season we've already had a few mishaps. Kim is home with broken pelvis bones but fortunately they are not weight bearing so no surgery is required. She can stand without any pain but walking is very painful and she must use a walker. She will be home bound for two weeks but the prognosis is good. Thoughts and prayers have been and will continue to be much appreciated. We all hope for a full and successful recovery and look forward to having Kim back on the bike soon.
Also Brian was taken out by a dog Saturday on West Hester, no real injuries but we all know dogs on the road are a real concern.
With the winter of course comes pot holes and missing pavement, lets all be mindful of each other, call out slowing, broken pavement, dogs, debris and any other concerns on the roads, be vocal. Please visit the Bike Safety section on the blog for a refresher and reminder.

Stay safe out there!

A couple of years ago Demetrius and his EMT friends presented an excellent safety/emergency course for FOGBEES. An important consideration was to avoid moving an injured person. About a decade ago, "Nick the Stick" fell and broke his hip while trying to unclip. Fortunately, Tommy and Rhonda Tucker were on the ride and refused to let anyone (including some inexperienced first responders) but the EMTs move Nick. Later, the doctors at the Trauma Center reported that that saved Nick from further serious injury. Please keep this in mind.

Nick Hunter?

No,it was Timothy Nichols. He was a member of the first FOGBEE Light group back in 2007. Although he was dedicated to bicycling (he even had his own biking blog), he never quite recovered from that accident and never rode with the group again. Tim, aka Nick the Stick, passed away at the age of 53 in November 2012.
