Group Riding

. . Woody shared a note that he received from a Memphis biking friend.  He thought it would be a good newsletter topic.
. . I asked several people their opinion as to what to do with the note.  Their response was unequivocal -- it needs to be promoted.  So I have given it its own page on our website.  You can find it at http://fogbees.blogspot.com/p/group-riding.html.  (also accessible from the Website page)
. . The discussion also got a little off target -- about how the club works (or doesn't work) with newbees, which was not addressed in Woody's note.  What do you think?

Gainesboro

Yesterday, Bruce led us on a special ride on Roaring River Road just east of Gainesboro TN.  Our destination was to visit with a family with whom he and David Shumaker stayed last year on a ride back from eastern Tennessee.  Everyone said it was the best ride that they had been on, except for the mountain we had to climb that defeated even "the goat."
This family spent three months biking in Israel.  The trip was so exceptional that Emily Varela wrote a 500 page book describing their adventure.  Our visit was to pickup signed copies of this book. When I was there I felt like I was witnessing a little of "Fiddler on the Roof."
Phil Vickery has a remarkable eye for photography and he caught this moment which I thought I would share.
We took lots of pictures which we have posted to Shutterfly.

Hendersonville Police Want to Do Right for Bicyclists

. . The earlier problem that we noted on this blog (You be the Judge) has been thoroughly reviewed by Hendersonville Police Department.  They have rescinded the citation.  We are impressed that they have taken time to have full department reviews of Bicycle Law, such as that displayed on our website.  I would not be surprised if that doesn't lead to better and more frequent enforcement, which benefits all of us.
. . The FOGBEES is the very rare bike club that believes enough in the safety value of these laws to post them in great detail on its website.  Here all members can take time to understand what is expected and set an expert example for non-club members.

Be the Judge

Here is a real case for you "arm chair" and real lawyers.  This incident occurred at one of the entrances to Demo's restaurant in Hendersonville.
An adult (over the age of thirty) on the sidewalk running parallel to the road commences to walk his bike across an entrance to a parking lot. A car has stopped momentarily a few feet from the crossing planned to enter the road.  The bicyclist is moving opposite to the traffic flow on the road.  The motorist not seeing the bicyclist moves forward and clips the front wheel of the bicycle as the bicyclist attempts to cross.
The police ticket the bicyclist for not having a helmet, for being on the sidewalk, and for moving opposite to the direction of traffic.   The ticket says the statute violated is Hendersonville 15-122.  You're the judge.  What do you decide?

Majorca, Spain Trip May 22-29, 2016 - IMPORTANT UPDATED INFO

We all know how much we love cycling, and cycling with our friends is even better, what about combing them and cycling with our friends on one of the most beautiful islands of Spain?! Majorca (Mallorca) Spain is known for its white sandy beaches, it's cycle friendly atmosphere, and its overwhelming beauty.
I am working with Diane Golden with fit4adventure.com on a cycling trip to Majorca, Spain. She has planned several of these trips before and it will be amazing. She has a trip listed on the website for May 1-15, 2016, but with kids moving back from college, high school graduations, and mother's Day, I asked her to do one on a later date for us. She has agreed to do a trip for the Fogbees (Fogbee families and friends) on May 22-29, 2016. We would fly in on May 22nd and start cycling on May 23rd.
** You can also chose to stay for 10 days. Checking out June 1, 2016. The last few days Diane would show us around personally. (She said that those who stay 7 days, always wish they had stayed 10)
Please visit the website fit4adventure.com and read all the details of the trip. She is checking with the pro UK cycle leaders who would take us around the island to confirm how many people we need for the trip to be a reality. 20 people is what I have been told so far.
Non cycling spouses or family members are welcome and encouraged to attend. There is plenty for them to do while we ride.
I will post soon how to sign up for the trip since the only one listed on the site for now is the trip with the earlier dates. Please comment below if you are interested so I can start getting an idea on numbers. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me. 615-828-4632 Thank you! Tammy Gibson

** Sign up by going to fit4adventure.com, chose the Majorica Cycling trip May1-15, 2016 Spain trip, scroll down to the bottom and click the yellow tab "Book Your Trip", Fill out the contact information form and put the CHECK IN DATE as May 22, 2016 and the CHECK OUT date as May 29th (Unless you want to stay 10 days, then you would CHECK OUT June 1, 2016) Agree to the terms and conditions and hit submit. This will direct you to pay your $150 per person deposit.

IMPORTANT… Sign up with your deposit before September 1st and you get the "Early Bird Price" which are the prices currently listed for the trip. Lodging prices will change to the 2016 price on September 1, 2015.
