Trek Demo Day This Sunday at Lock 4 in Gallatin

We have a fantastic event planned for this upcoming Sunday for our friends at the Lock 4 Park in Gallatin. From 10-2, Trek Bikes will have a fleet of bikes available for our riding friends to test ride. Trek will be bringing smooth and fast road bikes like the race inspired Madone and the super comfortable endurance designed Domane as well as their super fast, nimble Superfly hardtail and full suspension race bike and the brand new Fuel EX 650B trail bike with automotive race giant Penske designed RE:ACTIV suspension. Other great Trek bikes that will be available for riding are the Fuel EX 29, Remedy 29, Remedy 650, Stache, Lush 29, and the Carbon Cali. Remember to bring your credit card and your state issued ID to ride these bikes and see what makes Trek stand out from the crowd with their award winning road and mountain bikes!

Nashville Kids' Triathlon

. . I appreciate Charlene providing Allen, Curtis, Jason, and me the opportunity to be Lead Bicyclists at this year's Nashville Kids' Triathlon.  She said there were 600 kids participating. Unlike the H'ville version, we got to ride with the athletes. It was great fun and these kids ride about my speed.
. . One of the most impressive things that I enjoyed was riding along side of a little girl who probably wasn't much taller than three feet.  She did all six miles of the bike course on tiny bike with training wheels and 12-inch wheels, the kind you see at Walmart.  She got tired toward the end of the course, but had no intention on quitting and finished (not in last position).
. . Also, congratulations to Michelle and Denise who finished FIRST in their age group of the women's triathlon.  Allen and I let Curtis and Jason, lead the ladies Tri.  We knew we weren't about to keep up with the first couple of speedsters who burnt up the course.  Allen and I just rode along and "observed."

Hot Weather Riding

I found this resource recently concerning cycling in hot weather. With all the charity rides and centuries (read 'all-day rides' for some of us) coming up this summer, you will find some good advice here. Applies to runners too, except maybe the part about eating on the fly.

Desperately Seeking Fogbees

Thanks for adding my need for Volunteers for the Nashville Kid's Triathlon June 14th to the Fogbee Newsletter back in May. I haven't gotten any Volunteer registrations yet, but I suspect it's because the "Big Hill Challenge" is the same day. In the event that there happen to be a few Fogbee's are are opting not to do that ride, or there are spouses who aren't going…would you mind giving the Volunteer request one more push this week?

I would LOVE to have 6 Fogbee's ride the bike course like the past few years. If I can't have Fogbee's this year… :( I'll have to ask another group and I really don't want to ask another group, because I REALLY like the Fogbee's. :)

I would LOVE to have 6 Fogbee's committed by this Friday to ride the bike course during the Nashville Kid's Triathlon at Centennial Park, Saturday morning, June 14, 6am-Noon.

Charlene Alcorn

I just volunteered.  Charlene needs FIVE more FOGBEESHow about joining me. Tom_E

Anyone interested in 90-100 mi ride this Saturday?

Hey all! I'm hoping to get in 90-100 miles this Saturday and would love to have some company! Route and pace flexible but if I want to be able to drive home, I probably will say max 17 mph average :)  Likely option is to add on to whatever route is posted for this Saturday so feel free to propose any length loop of adding on you want, and I'll figure out my rest. Thanks!

P.S. Daniel is probably looking to do 90-100 miles too but he goes hare speed so I can't keep up with him but if anyone's interested in going fast, he will be looking for company too :)

Fall Foliage ride 2014 to Red Boiling Springs, October 18, 2014

My toes are hardly thawed from this miserably cold winter and folks are already asking about the Fall Ride. That's a good thing.  Saturday  I polled the people sitting around me and came up with the date of October 18, 2014. That date is good with Armour's Hotel, our hosts supreme. The mere mention of going someplace different almost got me tossed out of the van.
Route and accomodations will be similar to years past, hopefully without last year's rain. More details in August but wanted to get the date set with us and with Armour's.
Please comment if the date conflicts with something off my radar.

Great Event

The Chateau Ross Ride was truly a great event in past FOGBEE style.  If you missed it, consider this quote from Doug Depew,
"This has got to be one of the best FOGBEE one-day outings ever.  When can we do it again?"
It was a great route, even with a Tasty Freeze stop in Franklin. Every body started together, and almost everyone finished together, even though the trails may have varied.  The wine was very unusual for Tennessee -- it was good.  Dollies were stacked with cases of bottles purchased by those who agreed with this critique.  Lunch was good and enjoyed in the home of our hosts.  It is hard to imagine how this event could be better.  We even got back and had our winery tour  before the sky opened.

Thanks Mike.  Just can't wait to see how you top this event. You're on a roll.
