Red Boiling Springs Update revised 10/5/22

October 21, 22, 23 will be here in three weeks, and I’m sure some cooler temps. I have spoken to Mark at the Armour’s and we have booked 11 rooms (there are no rooms available) with 13 riding on Friday the 21st. Plans are to leave from the parking lot across form he Gallatin police department at 8:30AM. Ride to Hartsville for lunch and then on to RBS. This is a Rain or Shine ride. One Other detail I need is a hard head count for Mark and Kally, food and rooms. The hotel hasn’t changed much, just missing Deborah’s hats and a few pieces of furniture, no cigar smoking on the front porch so I’m thinking we take one or two pop up canopies to use in case of rain, the fire pit is still in the back.

Baggage/cooler logistics has been confirmed by Ms. Tracie and Ms. Sherry, they will be at the parking/starting lot on Friday.

Room Listing:

1 –   Doc

2 –   Woody

9 –   Dave & Kelly

10 – Kate

19 – Chris

22 – John & Cindy

23 – Tony

24 - Jeff M.

25 – Patrick

26 – Mile & Sherry

17 – Mike & Tracy

Reach out if you have any questions.

Thanks All

Woody

This is a Rain or Shine ride. If you plan "on not attending" please tell me now,; before 10/14/22 . 615-572-5045 . I do not want to leave Mark and Kallay stuck with a lot of food and rooms that are cancelled at the last minute. Please advise If you want to attend so we can make accommodation's. There are other hotels near by.

(9/28/22) Update Red Boiling Springs October 21, 22, 23

Finalizing plans for our fall weekend (October 21, 22, 23) ride to Red Boiling Springs. Mark and Kally Efros are the new owners and caretakers of the Armour’s, together they bring many years of experience in Hotels, Restaurants, and Wellness & Spa Industry, and are excited about the FOGBEEs visit.

This three-day two-night ride will start in Gallatin appox. 8:30AM; public parking lot with cameras in front of the Gallatin Police Department and across from the Gallatin Fire Department on N LOCUST ST (parking lot between the Farmers Market and Police Station).

Routes have been completed and will be posted with the next update. Options: A good thing about this ride is there are riding options every day, option #1 Friday: ride with the group from Gallatin to Hartsville for lunch and have a vehicle take you to RBS; option #2 Friday: drive to Hartsville, have lunch, ride to RBS with the group; option #3 Saturday: you do not have to ride on Saturday; option #4 Sunday: ride back to Hartsville and have a vehicle pick you up there.

This is always a fun weekend for the FOGBEEs and their wives, we usually have a birthday or two to celebrate and have even had a wedding a few years ago. Currently we have the hotel booked with two rooms available, it would be great if we could fill the hotel and occupy all the rooms for this weekend. If you are interested and can attend reach out to me and I will get you booked.

Please advise if you have any questions.

See ya on the porch!

DATE CHANGE for the Red Boiling Springs 2022 Fall Ride (Updated June 20, 2022)

Due to a few conflicts we have moved up the Red Boiling Springs Fall Ride to October 21st, 22nd, 23rd. We will again stay at the Armour's  Hotel B&B with the new owners Mark and Kally Efros. They have a few less rooms than years past and I currently have 7 confirmed. If these dates work for you and your spouse/friend want to join us , please let me know. Also this is planned as a 3 day ride; Friday ride to RBS, Saturday local routes, Sunday back to Gallatin. You do not have to ride all three days, there will also be an option/route to start and finish in Hartsville. It is a lot of fun staying at the Armour's and socializing after the rides, wives and significant others are invited to attend.
More details as we get closer, but wanted to get this date change out as soon as possible.

Bob's Ride from Hendersonville to the Ocean

After two years of fits and stops, Bob's H2O is ready to go on this Saturday May 21st.  As the final "fit," the tour is without Bob. Nevertheless, the FOGBEE crew is still doing the two-week excursion. You can watch the entire story here as we make our way to the ocean.

Not to worry for Bob, we still have other multi-day tours in the plan that he and other FOGBEES can join -- even several we have not yet sketched.

FOGBEE Archives

In 2013, I started writing a monthly column about bicycles. Initially, the Indian Lake Peninsula Living editor thought I worked for Bikers Choice. I didn't and never included a byline.

Initially, the editor asked for a couple of paragraphs and photos every month. I ran out of ideas after about a year and Bikers Choice stopped paying its advertisement. Then the editor said, "Write stories about FOGBEES and use my byline."

I found about six years of your activities and photos to share. I did include a few non-bike stories that others requested. But, in mid-2020 COVID changed a lot. The magazine terminated and I was no longer able to ride with the club. I ran out of stories to tell.

My wife kept a copy of most of the magazines. Before I started to throw them to the trashcan, I made a copy of most of these articles and lots of FOGBEE activities and photos. I thought many of you would be interested in seeing some of these old times. Here is a list with hyperlinks that you can click to see each article.

Personal eBike Story

Making Personal Stories for eBikes

FROM CAREY:

Thanks to Ben and Tom for the stories. I’m convinced we need to make this as personal as possible since talking to people about class 1 and class 2 makes their eyes glaze over.

Nashville Greenways Commission

The following highlights to Carey's report are provided by T. Evans. As a owner of an ebike he thinks both the Nashville and TDOT regulations are misguided and lack knowledge of this new technology. He will offer position statement in the next several months. He supports Carey's attempt to educate regulators.
