$40K for Cystic Fibrosis

You helped raise more than $40K for cystic fibrosis!
Words cannot describe how thankful we are at the CF Foundation for the incredible efforts of our 87 cyclists. Your support of the 2nd annual CF Cycle for Life helped raise more than $40K for cystic fibrosis!  Your generosity and commitment to CF is allowing the CF Foundation to continue their research efforts in finding a cure!

We hope you all enjoyed yourselves at the event and were able to get warm once home on Saturday!   We are very much looking forward to next year and hope you will join us again for another great ride!

Thank you again!
 Warmest Regards,
Tiffany Kerns
Thank you volunteers!

A perfect 10

What a trip the Red Boiling Springs two day ride was. It was probably one of the best (of the many overnighters) that I have ever been on. Congrats to Ed, Phil, Sarah, Demetrius, John, Doug, Janice, Kay, Bruce, Andrew and Mike on the ride. I logged 115 miles over two days. The scenic back roads were beautiful but tough. The Armours Bed and Breakfast was out of this world. They treated us like royalty and cooked a  huge dinner on Saturday night and a giant breakfast this morning. Last night we were treated to a big bon fire and we all sat around it and told stories and laughed for hours. Bruce even gave us an evolutionary history of the Fogbees! I'm already looking forward to next years RBS ride. It's one of the ways it makes being a Fogbee special.

Frolic Follow-Up

Three of us had an absolutely amazing ride today.  We all agreed it was a really fantastic century route (one of the best we have ever done), which was very fortunate since none of us had rode the majority of the roads.  I am re-posting it here so that other Fogbees can take advantage of the wonderful pavement we explored.  Since there was interest from some other rides who could not make it this time around, keep your eyes on the blog because we will be doing it again :)  If you have ever considered a self-supported century come along next time and you won't regret it...it really was beautiful!

RBS riders, let us all relish in the post-ride-beer-and-endorphins high!

Note: we went by some wonderful horse farms in KY and were lucky enough to grab a ride on one special pony.

Sunday Oct 21 - Fogbee Fall Frolic

With the fantastic weather and beautiful fall colors, there couldn't be a better weekend for a century.  For all of those not going on the RBS trip, come out for a great 100 mile ride leaving from White House and going up through Franklin, then back along a great strech of road from one of our past weekend rides.  "Red Boiling Springs Road" is part of the route...coicidence or not?  Start time is 9am (hopefully it has warmed up a bit by then so we don't have to start off budled then carry the warmer clothes the rest of the day).  Meeting spot is at the greenway across from De La Paz Mexican restaurant in White House, and yes that means post-ride margaritas.

Post if you would like to come, it should be fun!

Grand Opening of Station Camp Greenway

Grand opening of Phase 1 of the Station Camp Greenway is on Thursday Oct 25'th at 2PM.  The event will occur next to the Douglass-Clark House, adjacent to the creek side at Station Camp subdivision and is open to the public.

Also last Thursday, Hendersonville City leaders broke ground for the Hendersonville Bike/Ped Trail. It runs along the eastern side of Drakes Creek from Gallatin Rd to Mallard Point Park.  Fred Rogers has promises to sign roads from here to Sanders Ferry Rd based on our recommendations.

The Drakes Creek Greenway and the eventual linkage from Hendersonville Greenway Network to the Station Camp Greenway are part of the Bike/Ped Master Plan members of the 2005 Hendersonville Tomorrow Sub-committee for Bike and Pedestrian Plans submitted to the Board of Mayor and Aldermen.

Cycle For Life Sweep

We need one more volunteer for the Fogbee Sponsored Cystic Fibrosis Cycle for Life Ride on Saturday October 27, 2012.  We need someone to sweep the 62 mile route.  It mainly involves collecting tired or broken down cyclists and transporting them to the next rest stop.   This is a perfect opportunity to do a pleasant ride in the Fall colors while potentially rescuing a fellow Fogbee.  If you can do it. please post below.

Red Boiling Springs Massage and Mineral Bath

Just talked with Dennis Emery to confirm details.  Like  supper will be at 5 pm. He reminded me that Armour's has a mineral bath, the only one remaining from the feature that made Red Boiling Springs a tourist spot and a masseuse.  His note below describes the service.

"Thought I'd mention that if anyone would like a massage on Saturday after the ride up here, we can have a masseuse available Saturday afternoon and evening to do massages in one of two manners:

She can either do a regular full 1-Hour massage (@ $79) in our SPA ... or we can have her bring her professional massage chair and she can do chair massages at the rate of $1 per minute (usually 15 to 20 minute massages) + any gratuity if so inclined.  No taxes on massages."

Anyone interested in the mineral bath or massage please call Armour's 615-699-2180 or email armourshotel@yahoo.com
He also still has rooms so those waiting to check on the weather, which should be great, can still go and stay at Armour's.

Happy Halloween with the Annual Fogbee Party

Sat, October 27th at 7:30 pm at the GlenOaks ClubHouse. 101 Agee Circle East, Hendersonville, Tn.
In conjunction with the CF ride to Cure Cystic Fibrosis earlier that day. Come and party with the Fogbees and friends. Bring a dish or refreshments and get ready to have a great Halloween.
(Note: this video shot at Studio B...any resemblence to any Fogbees, or there spouse, is purely a coincidence..)

Red Boiling Springs Roundup

Only five more days until Red Boiling Springs Ride.  The last RBS was an awesome summer ride.  This time the trees should be in full color about the time we ride.  Our first ride was this time of year and our award winning Fogbee photographer, Ed Thomas, took a picture on this ride that was selected from hundreds, maybe thousands, of submissions by Adventure Cycling to represent the beauty of cycling in Tennessee.  Still time for you to make this your signature fall ride.  The weather is now predicted to be just gorgeous and perfect temperatures for cycling. This is a tour so no one will be dropped.

Amour's (615) 699-2180  still had a few rooms open on my last check so call now and get your reservation in. They have only a 24 hr cancellation policy so you can back out if one of those life changing events occurs between now and then. Dinner is family style, pass the plates, and very tasty!! Sign up for dinner!!

Start time for the long ride is 8:30am from Sams, Meeting at 8:00 to 8:15.  Short riders should be in Hartsville at 11:00am where we will have lunch then leave after lunch.  Here's a roster of participants by my count.  If this is not correct by either omission or commission, let me know. Also, review the overall plan by clicking on the Red Boiling Springs link under "Major Events" (please note the time changes in this post prevail over the website) and if you have questions or suggestions let me know.  Post here or email me at bruceeday at gmail dot com
Day 1 long route
Day 2 long route
Day 1 short route
Day 2 Short route
You can print cues directly from Ride With GPS from the left panel.
Riders cycling from White House and Gallatin are will meet the main group at Cambridge market at coner of Long Hollow and Buckingham at 9:00 am.

Last trip the Emery's had a cooler of refreshing beverages ready on our arrival. Dennis drove all over the Cumberland Plateau looking for Yazoo beer since he had heard we liked it. This trip Marsha will be taking a cooler stocked  with our favorites. How will she know your favorite?  You'll need to provide a generous sample, say enough to supply you for an afternoon. Marsha will pick up your beverages at Sam's at the start of the ride. (Marsha will bring a bucket of Margaritas and some Miller Lite to share).

Oktoberfest/Gerst Haus Ride - Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012

Slight change to the ride for Saturday.   Riding from and attending Oktoberfest in Germantown is not practical.  As such, in order to keep with the theme of Oktoberfest, we will ride from the Gerst Haus followed by German food and German beer.   We will leave the Gerst Haus at 9:00AM and ride the Nashville Greenways.

There is a parking lot across the street from the Gerst next to Shoney's where you can park.

See you there,

Mike and Sherry

It's the FOGBEE HALLOWEEN PARTY!!

It's time for the Annual Fogbee Great Pumpkin Party! It's at our usual Haunted Glen Oaks Clubhouse across the street from Hendersonville Hospital (101 Agee Circle East). The Party is after the Fogbee endorsed CF ride on October 27, 2012 at 7:30 pm so you can cycle in the beauty of Northern Middle Tennessee in the morning and celebrate that evening. Bring a dish if you can, relax with friends and dance to the tunes of DJ Draftmaster! Any help is appreciated. You can call Gary at 943-2606 if you want to help plan, decorate or add a fun idea to the party. Invite any friends you would like whether they cycle or not. See you there!

Lost Pump

Did anyone happen to find a Topeak frame pump behind Sam's Tuesday night?

Pedaling for the Pack this Saturday in Hartsville

Missed the registration deadline for the 840 Gran Fondo? Here's another fine option closer to home. The Cub Scouts in Hartsville are holding a benefit ride Saturday with excellent 33 and 62 mile routes starting at 8 AM from the Hartsville City Park.  This will be my first year for this ride and I'm expecting it to be a low key affair. The 33 mile is scenic yet pretty flat, staying in the basin, while the 62 mile adds the Harmony Road climb to Drury Ridge to the Ford Branch descent, followed by the Pumpkin Branch climb - Sweet! Only $20. Details at http://pack122hartsville.scoutlander.com, go to Upcoming Events.

Yet another resource when planning your rides.  It is a bit simplistic. As we all know, In Sumner Country you always have a headwind.

It's time for the Jack

Oh boy it's my fifth time riding the Jack n Back and it looks to be cold and rainy and I can't wait. Hopefully, the storms will pass before the 7:30 am ride time. Looking forward to seeing my Fogbee friends that are cycling tomorrow.

Help the Alliance

This month for each bike trip you log on the 2 Mile Challenge, Clif Bar will donate $1 to the Alliance for Biking & Walking. The clock is already ticking, and to reach our ambitious goal of 10,000 trips in October, we need your help!

Go to 2MileChallenge.com, create a profile, and start logging your trips by bike. You can even download the BikeBrain app to keep track of your trips.

It's an easy way to support the Alliance and state (think Bike Walk Tennessee) and local advocacy organizations.

We're not asking you for a dime, just some good old fashioned pedal power. Thanks for your support!

Sincerely,
Jeffrey Miller - President / CEO

Jack 'n' Back - Oct. 6 & 7

MS Society's Bike to Jack and Back is an annual highlight for the Fogbees, thanks to Monsieur Cannonball's efforts as team leader for several years.  If you're not familiar with Jack 'n' Back, click on the link above to see what makes this 2-day ride a great event, the donation requirements and how to register. In addition they offer great fundraising tools and strategies. If you have questions, please post or contact me, and if you register for the ride be sure to sign up as a member of the Fogbee team.

For those familiar with Jack 'n' Back, the ride this year will have some key changes...
  • One day ride option on Saturday - Didn't think you could ride due to a conflict on Sunday? No problem - you may arrange your own transportation back to Franklin or, for an additional $20 registration fee, a charter bus will take you back.
  • 2 time slots for the dinner and party "On the Hill": 5-6:30 or 7-8:30. The number of riders has exceeded the capacity of Jack Daniel's hilltop venue, so you will need to designate which time you will attend. After you have registered, email lauren.looser@nmss.org with your choice.  I believe everyone already signed up on the Fogbee team has selected the early slot.
Please consider joining us for this ride to help a great cause and check back here from time to time, as I'll update this post over the several weeks with updates on ride preparation, accommodations, logistics, etc.

840 Grand Fondo

Join Governor Haslam and Commissioner Shroer as they celebrate the opening of SR 840 on October 13'th with a BIKE FESTIVALCLICK HERE for all the details.  This ONE TIME event has
  • A fully timed course with a King of the Mountain timed section.
  • Fresh asphalt on a new major roadway legally closed for cyclist only!
  • Fully staffed and stocked rest stops by Whole Foods Market.
  • 840 Fondo Festival gift bag & commemorative t-shirt
  • Post-ride meal & social with music in Historic Leipers Fork.

Red Boiling Springs Reminder.

Only 4 rooms left at the most excellent Armour's hotel and those will soon be released to the general public. Call (615) 699-2180 now to assure you will be with the group.

Also, folks planning to ride the shorter route by parking in Hartsville please let Bruce Day or Doug Depew know. In the past we've been allowed to park in the police lot (can't get safer than that) but so far no one has stated a need  so no arrangements for that have yet been made.
