H2O The Book

It took Aussie Bob two years to put together his last two-week bike excursion that he didn't get to do. He is now working on another for 2023. Keep watching.

However, in the meantime read his most recent trip on H2O the Book. https://bit.ly/H2OBook

Next Big Event - the Silver Comet

Great turn out for Spring Greenway Ride.  Now it's time to make ready for the Spring Over-night in Atlanta GA and the Silver Comet Ride.  Doug is trying to plan transportation for everyone, but he needs your help in confirming your plans.
. . I have summarize everyone's comments on a spreadsheet.  (See Participants on the Silver Comet page on our website).  Please verify we haven't accidentally left you off or maybe added you.
. . Many have personal contacts in Atlanta and plan to stay with them and visit with them rather than join in Fogbee group meals and excursions.  Please send an email to Fogbees@gmail.com and let us know if you and guests want to be included in Fogbee Group plans for Friday evening (dinner), Saturday afternoon (excursion), and Saturday evening (dinner).

Silver Comet Spring Ride - Comments Please

We are trying to pull off an out of town ride down the Chief Ladiga and Silver Comet Trail. The tentative date is May 5. We would travel to the Jackson or Anniston Alabama area on Friday the 4th and stay overnight. We will plan Ride Drops to vary the mileage.

The big Kahuna (Full Ladiga and Comet) would range in the 90 - 95 mile range, an all day affair. If you want to do just the Silver Comet 62 Miles, we would arrange a drop off at the Alabama/Georgia Border where you can go back a mile to the border then ride the comet. The short ride would be in the 40 to 45 mile from the lunch stop. See Bruces comment as that is a race weekend in Alabama. We can work around this by starting in Atlanta and riding out. We can arrange out and backs or I know I can get a couple drivers to pick us up along the trail varying the mileage. We can limit it to just the Comet and not get into the race mess. Just different logistics.

45 miles of the Comet are reasonably flat while there are hills where it goes off the railbed. I have not rident the Chief. In any event we would take our time and have a lunch stop at one of the towns along the trail, ending up in the Atlanta area at a hotel near the trail. As always we will try to plan daytime activities for the non riding spouses/significant others.

Please comment 1.) If you are interested in riding 2.) If so how many miles 3.) If your spouse or significant other will be joining to ride or for other activities.

Overnight Rides for 2012

We missed a Fogbee Spring ride last year and though we did a July make up, I learned why few rides are scheduled in July.  This year we hope to do better.  Here are two rides in the offing.
1. Fobee Weekend Ride on Chief Ladiga/Silver Comet. Rough plans are to drive to a starting point in Alabama, probably Jacksonville, AL Friday and stay in local motel. Next day ride Chief Ladiga Trail to near Atlanta and have after ride party somewhere in Atlanta. Non riding significant others would drive to Atlanta, shop, visit family, etc. Saturday morning.  US 278 roughly parallels the trails most of the way so a meeting for lunch or part of way ride is possible.  The full ride from Jacskonville to Smyrna is about 80 miles. Drive back from Atlanta Sunday.  No specifics yet but April 20,21, 22 has been suggested as dates.  Please respond to this post if you are interested in riding. Any and all advice and help needed as this is one ride with which I am unfamiliar.

2. Mid America 2012. My Australian touring buddy, Bob Schofield is back in the USA this year and is leading a ride from Westmoreland, TN to the Washington DC area.  We'll be gathering at my home and shuttled to Westmoreland. Th full ride is three weeks but I only plan to do the first week and get fetched back home.  Anyone interested in doing some or all of this, please mail me at bruceeday_at_gmail.com. REplace the _at_ with the standard @ symbol.  A complete description of the ride is at  Mid America12
I encourage anyone with the time and courage to do it.  We'll be firming up camping, motel, and transportation arrangements in the next month.

Spring Over-Nighter

. . We didn't have our usual Spring over-nighter last year because the weather was so crappy.  However, several have already asked, "what do we plan for this spring?"  Very likely the weather is going to be significantly better than last year so we are targeting a ride for April 28'th and 29'th.  That will allow those who wish to do the new Spring BRAT to do both.
. . We are tossing around a number of candidate destinations: The Silver Comet, the Virgina Creeper, something in Louisville, the Spring BRAT (instead of our own), and ride from Bristol to Knoxville.  Some even want to repeat the Little Miami ride.
. . So what do you want to do?  How about some suggestions. SOON so everyone can schedule and plan.
