Mid Atlantic 12/24 Time Trial

The Fogbee jerseys were seen once again at an Ultra Marathon event. With a super flat course I was hoping for a PR this time. Alas it was not to be. The winds picked up and since the rules allowed no drafting we pushed all day long. Then near the finish of our 5th lap, I was nearly clipped by a car on a four lane highway (2 foot shoulder) and Jennifer was closely passed while in the turning lane. It was getting dark and we decided discretion was much better than being road carnage and we packed it in. Just weren't feeling the love from the local motorists. We both completed 127 miles. The plus side is we were able to sit back and scarf some pizza that Marilynn brought in and watch the more intrepid prepare all their lights and reflecties for the night. Since we didn't stick it out, we decided to form a subsegment of the UMCA, the Ultra Marathon Cycling Dilletantes.

And in true Dilletante fashion, you forgot to mention the excellent new sun shade for gear storage. Other than the unfortunate run-ins with cars, a good day was had by all.

Congratulations on a long and safe ride. Too bad about the hostile or more likely, thoughtless drives. Those incidents sully the experience even if no one is physically harmed.

They didn't seem hostile (no horn blowing, diesel belching, or finger waving) I think they just didn't think or see.

I will recommend that the organizers have warning lights and better signage to alert auto drivers and log truck drivers).
