TDOT’s Multimodal Access Policy

TDOT is currently in the process of developing a Multimodal Access Policy to ensure that the needs of  all roadway users (including but not limited to motorists, transit-riders, freight-carriers, bicyclists and pedestrians) are considered during  project planning and design.  Following adoption of the Multimodal Access Policy, TDOT will develop a Multimodal Access Implementation Plan, Design Guidelines, and training for internal and external partners.
Below is a link to a draft copy of TDOT’s Multimodal Access Policy.  This policy, when in effect, will replace TDOT’s 2010 Bicycle and Pedestrian Accommodation Policy.  Please review the attached draft policy and provide any comments to me by COB June 22, 2015.

Really Unacceptable service tonight at Sams Sports Bar and Grill

All- We used to start all our rides at Sams Sports Bar and Grill.   In the last year, we have moved our Thursday night ride to Brixx and Saturday to other restaurants like Bluegrass.

Tonight should have been embarrassing for Sams Sports Bar and Grill as Marsh and I arrived at 6:45, and at 8:02 had still not been approached for our second drink and no food order.  Our waiter snapped at Mike Knake that he didn't seem to understand that they were busy (after waiting an hour and 15 minutes.)  I asked for the manager, and he was in my terms "Totally Useless" even defending the waiter as one of the best.  He also chastised Mike for raising his voice at the waiter.   He failed to apologize for the service level or do anything about it.  Marsha was so pissed she just left.  We had 23 patrons there tonight and got treated like crap!!

If you feel the same way about our service tonight, please go to the Sams website and send them a complaint telling about your lousy experience.  I also mentioned in my complaint that not only the club patronizing, but all the business customers I have brought there for lunch or dinner.  If I don't get a good answer, we may ride from their parking lot, but I may not spend my money there!!

Forward this blog post to all you think need to know!

Why Retired Old Turtles Always Stop for ICE CREAM

Some have wondered why the RETIRED OLD TURTLES always end their rides with a stop for ICE CREAM.  Below is the best explanation I have found thus far

One day I had lunch with some old friends. Jim, a short, balding turtle bicyclist type, about 85-years old, came along with them; all in all, it was a pleasant bunch.

When the menus were presented, my friends and I ordered salads, sandwiches, and soups, except for Jim who said, "A large piece of home-made apple pie, heated please."

Help Request - W/B Nashville

Hi Local Club Leaders/Riders!
Happy Bike Month!

We're looking for a few more experienced riders to help lead and sweep the Tour de Nash this year, and I thought of you all! We're looking for 2 more leaders for our 30 mile route (the Gran Tour) and an additional sweep for the Metric Century route.

If you are interested, or if you know anyone in your clubs/teams that are interested, please send them my way! Sweeps and leads of course ride for free and will have our eternal thanks (in addition to a tshirt).

And I also wanted to invite you all to join Team Nashville in the National Bike Challenge (https://nationalbikechallenge.org/). We've challenged Memphis and Chattanooga to see how many riders and miles we can log per resident. It would be AWESOME to have some of our local club teams join us. We'll also have prizes and awards for the local riders and teams who log the most points. Yay for competition!

Thanks!!

     Marathon Support Cyclists - - -

2 more riders needed .... as of 4/20/2015 .......

If you're available  Saturday, April 25th and want a cycling challenge. I need folks to be support cyclists for the elite runners at the country music marathon.  You  get the chance to ride the streets of nashville without fear of being used for traction by cars.  We meet at titan stadium ~6am and then all ride to the marathon starting line. We will be briefed by the race director, given our assignments and when the race starts we take off and pick up our assigned runner.  After your assignment finishes the race  you are free to leave or ride back through the course and look for folks having problems. It's a unique cycling experience. I have usually been done with the half marathon by 8:10 am,  and the full by 9:30 am

Plans for Bryan

Family and Friends:
There will be a memorial service for Bryan Kortness at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in White House, TN, on Friday, April 10th. Visitation will take place 1pm-3pm with the memorial service beginning at 3pm.
Leslie

A Memorial fund has been set up with his Leslie's permission at
David Hardin

Bryan Kortness was an inspiration, a jokester, and a lover of all things bikes!! One interaction with him and it was obvious how much he knew about cycling of all kinds, and the passion he had for it! His enthusiasm and positive attitude were contagious, to both new and experienced riders, the first time buyer or longtime bike enthusiast.

The outpouring on social media sites has been amazing! After speaking with Leslie, she mentioned that his mom (nor Teagan) are on social media. That being said…we’d like to put together a bound book that we can give to both of them.

We need your stories, your pictures, the “Bryan-isms” that you are willing to share. Thank you in advance for your contributions. If anyone would be interested in a copy of the book when it is complete, please let me know that too and we'll get pricing.

All items can be sent to me at: michelle.resch1974@gmail.com

I will try to send out weekly reminders… The target deadline to submit will be by May 10th. Please share this with anyone who may wish to contribute.

In Memory of Bryan

Several people have proposed having a memorial ride for Bryan.  David Hardin is setting up a ride and a fund in memory of Bryan and working closely with his family.  He will be announcing his plans shortly.  We'll share as David tells us more.

Bryan's Ride

Tom, FYI if you did not know:
Tomorrow night, depending on weather, we will have our usual Monday night pizza ride at Painturo's pizza in Goodlettsville at 6:20. The first 5 miles will be in silence for our loss of Bryan Kortness. Then after the ride telling stories of our great friend over pizza and beer.

Bryan Kortness

We are deeply sadden by the loss of a great FOGBEE friend.  His enthusiasm and leadership was an inspiration to all.  Bryan died this afternoon while riding his bike.  We will all miss him.  We offer our best wishes and support to Leslie and Teagen.

MT. JULIET, TN (WSMV) -
Today is certainly going to be a great day to enjoy the outdoors and break free from the winter hibernation. This means that more kids will be out, walkers and runners will hit the sidewalks and streets, bicyclists pedaling away, and motorcycles will be rolling.
The Mt. Juliet Police Department has sent out a note to remind residents to think about pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorists:

Help Needed - Saturday 3/21/15 @ 8AM

Tom, Maybe you can help with this. I offered to help the Gene Brown Elementary School’s PTO with their 5K fund-raiser this weekend. They needed a cyclist to lead the runners. I have just found out that they have nobody but me to help. And, I need help.
I need at least two more guys. Four or five more would be better. Can you send an email to the Fogbees seeking volunteers?  The first event is a 5k that starts at 8:00. The 1-mile run starts at 9:00. Both originate from the school on Imperial Drive near the post office.  We really need a couple guys riding through the winding course, leading the different packs of runners. The 1-mile race could use a couple as well.

Thank you, Jamie Clary

Bike for Sale

Got this note in our email.  Looks like a pretty good deal, so I thought I would post
Hello,
I’m selling my bike (photos attached) and thought some members of your group might be interested.  I live in White House, and bought it new from Bikers Choice.

It’s an ’06 Specialized Roubaix Comp Triple.  It has a carbon frame/fork/crank and seat post.  Ultegra derailleurs, 105 brakes, 24 hole aero rims, and is a 56 cm frame (I’m 6’0”).

It was $2,200 new.  I’m asking $695.

Thanks for your time.

23% Property Tax Increase

If you are a Sumner Co Fogbee homeowner you know how painful this tax increase is.  This was done without public discussion behind closed doors.  We have a chance to show our disgust for this kind of government action tomorrw night..  As many of us as possible should Bee there!!
Breaking News - Our efforts are paying off. On Monday the Legislative Committee decided to have a public hearing on the Property tax increase at the County Commission meeting on Monday January 26 at 7PM. This is a HUGE win for us. PLEASE Mark your calenders now and join us at the commission meeting. It is absolutely essential that we have a good crowd or the commission will continue to dismiss our concerns. The meeting will be on Monday January 26 at 7PM at the County Building at 355 N Belvedere Dr, Gallatin, TN 37066.

NEW RIDER SPOTTED

Yesterday's balmy late morning temps brought out a pack of cabin fevered FOGBEES !
One vaguely familiar rider has been dubbed Captain Neon ( aka The Wiz of Fog ).  Several dogs were spotted trying to chase said rider down with one paw over their eyes.

NOTICE TO TERMINATE

On Monday 1/12/15, we sent out Notices to Terminate to 29 email addresses that appear to be "dead" as determined by MailChimp tracking.  Since then, we have received 11 requests not to terminate.  That leaves 18 email addresses to be removed.

Please DOUBLE CHECK your email
to be sure you haven't received a notice from us.

Some notices went to people who we know are active, but likely we have old email addresses that they don't use.
On Saturday 1/17/15 we will delete those addresses
and remove their access to our blog.

On Sunday 1/18/15, we will issue the January FOGBEE Newsletter to the remaining addresses.

GoPro FOGBEE Ride -- From Long Beach CA

To Fogbees,
. . I wanted to thank the Fogbees for a great ride in Joelton on 12/26/14. I thought I would join your club ride while I was visiting in Tennessee. It was a great ride with very friendly and experienced cyclists.
. . Usually, I ride on Pacific Coast Highway in Long Beach, California which is flat as a pancake. The Joelton route was just fantastic.
. . Please pass on my thanks to all who rode on 12/26/14. Below is a You Tube Video I made. Can someone post on your you tube page. Mush appreciated. See you next year when I am visiting relatives.
