If you have a bike carrier on your vehicle, be sure it does not block your vehicle tag. Tennessee State Law (55-4-110. Display
of registration plates -- Manner -- Penalty for violation) requires the vehicle tag be clearly visible at all times. Law enforcement has been reported ticketing drivers in violation (read here for example). Hendersonville police are also pulling cars over for this violation.

Is there any lesson in the Hendersonville incident from which we might act to lessen our exposure? Such as place, time of day, etc.
If this is something Hendersonville Police are likely to continue, we need to have a meeting with city hall and beg fr mercy. As one of the less sympathetic commentators on the linked article said, we are breaking the law and there is little we can do to remedy that.
Bruce, I was pulled over in front of cracker barrel. Not carrying any bikes at the time which was 9:15 p.m.
The bike police cars have a similar bike carrier setup that obscures their tag. I think this is a situation to monitor but I have a theory that this incident should not become an issue with the police. I recommend we "lay low" unless I am wrong.
I think my yakima rack can be adjusted so it does not block the tag. Have seen lots of racks with the rubber feet right on the plate which is just asking for trouble.
