Congratulations to Goodlettsville
It was a spectacular game, like no other, but with a score of 24 to 15 the Little League team from Goodlettsville walked away as the USA Champions. They set all kinds of records and kept everyone in Middle Tennessee at the edge of their seats. Nothing matched watching these 12-year-olds perform at a game I once thought was boring.

Fogmania
I just wanted to say "awesome" for today's White House ride. With almost THIRTY (30) riders it was inspiring to see how the Fogbees have influenced people of all walks of life to ride their bikes. Thanks Mike for putting it together and to everyone who showed up!

SECURITY Reduced.
Tom, this is a bicycle blog, not a credit card service demanding such hyper-security; can you get the access to the Comments box changed to just a simple User Name and Password, something like Shutterfly and MyFamilyDNA have? I've never had trouble with those, and neither site has requested my cellphone number.
SUCCESS: I have managed to get CAPTCHA thingy turned off. That should make it a LOT easier for you to leave COMMENTS to POSTS. Sunday, August 12, 2012
A BIKE RIDE BY ANY OTHER NAME
FUN OLD GUYS AND GALS took advantage of yesterday's fair breezes and cotton candy skies to tour scenic Trousdale and historic Sumner Counties. The pace was conducive to immersing oneself into the often missed details and nuances of our wonderful biking terrain which we often take for granted. With historian, wiz of FOG, Tom Evans, and pathfinder extraordinaire, Bruce Day, our small band relished the by ways and highways as one. And yes, Bruce can pack more PUCs into 25 miles than anyone else in the biking kingdom !
On another note, we initiated a new FOGBEE, Ellen Getter ( a.k.a. Minnieball ), after she dropped the Cannonball on the descent into Hartsville. Reassuringly, Dillehays Cafe still serves macaroni as a vegetable and chocolate pie as an entree.
SEE PHOTOS BELOW AND ON SHUTTERFLY. ENJOY ! LIFE'S A BIKE.

NEED to COMMENT to POSTS
I have been asked about meeting spots for Bryan's Tomato Festival. When a ride has multiple pickup points, such as this one, it is important to add a COMMENT to the POST, especially if they are out-of-the-way such as the LITE route that shows a start in parking lot in front of Bailey's Grill. In the absence of such comments the group may ASSUME no one plans to leave from that point and skip the stop. We would hate for anyone to miss an opportunity to join the group. Just for clarification, no one has volunteered to lead the Short/LITE version of this Tomato Festival jaunt. Please COMMENT with your intentions.
Also, Bryan's LITE map show a start at Bailey's, but his POST states they expect to meet at Moss Trail. That is the intersection at the left-hand turn off Rivergate Pkwy at mile-marker 0.6 on the CUE Sheet to the LITE map just beyond (i.e. over yonder) the I-65 overpass.

FEMME FONDO
FOGBEES,
I wanted to send a short note to remind you that registration is open for the femme fondo women's ride to be held Saturday, September 8th in the tradition of Hope on Wheels.
The club has been a long-standing supporter of the all women's cycling
event historically held in Leiper's Fork. This year as the Minnie Pearl
Cancer Foundation focuses on special events related to what would have
been Minnie's 100th birthday, they decided to take a break from
administering the ride.840 FONDO Ride
John Schroer, commissioner of the
Tennessee Department of Transportation, announced that a portion of
State Route 840 will open exclusively to bicyclists Oct. 13, for “Eight
Forty Fondo Festival.” Fondo is Italian for “ride.” The ride will be
part of the opening ceremonies for the final 12 miles of SR 840 that
remain unopened. The unopened stretch traverses southern Williamson
County. It is scheduled to open to motor vehicles Nov. 2, according to
Schroer, who served as mayor of Franklin from 2007 to 2011.
“We're going to have an 'Eight Forty Fondo' on the new section of 840,” Schroer said. “The governor [Bill Halsam] is going to participate, and we want you to come and ride with the governor. [The surface] will be smooth and perfect.”

If you are you are doing the LITE ride, I suggest a starting time of 9AM. It is our EASY 20 that several of us (Phil, Doug, Janice, Tom) doing on Monday mornings. I'll (Tom_E) do it for those who want to join me and it will be at my EASY casual pace. I don't recommend the Ultra-Lite. We added that one for non-riders who wanted bring over their townie bikes and join in with something.

Nashville Tap and Run August 11th
I am hoping to put a team together of Fogbee members who would be interested in embarrassing themselves by joining up for the Nashville Tap and Run. This is a slightly non-competitive funny running/walking race that involves beer drinking and ridiculous themes. We have not decided on a costume theme yet for the team, but we are leaning towards Hooter's Girls, ugly strippers, school girls or something similar to win the shortest shorts competition(if there are other suggestions, we would love to hear them...We will have a team idea picked by the end of next week). We want men to do this as well so if you are willing to don skimpy women's clothing, drink some beer and either walk or run 2.5 miles, we would love to have you join us.
This event will feature 3 beer chugging stations and an after party also involving beer...If there ever was an event designed for the Fogbees, this is it! Please post of you have an interest in joining this event.
Here is the link to the event...

Two Fogbees successfully indoctrinitated to Randonneuring
Eric Bateman and Lindsay Case both completed their first 200K (127 mile) randonneuring ride from Brentwood to the George Dickel distillery and back with Bryan, me, and several riders from Gran Fondo and Harpeth Bike Club. Both finished strong despite the heat (Oh to be in the 20's again). Rumor has it that Lindsay really dropped the hammer the final 10 miles, but there was no one close enough to witness this :-). All I know is she was showered, dressed and ready to go when I finished.
And, no one thought to get a pic in front of George's statue.

Buyer wants a Jersey
Phil has a friend who wants to buy a medium-sized FOGBEE jersey. Yes, we know medium is not a common FOGBEE size. The buyer is looking for a virgin or experienced jersey -- an LG or a VGear man's. Contact Phil or send a note to fogbees@gmail.com & we'll forward it.

Calling all Advocates
. . Congress
has passed the Federal Transportation Act of 2012. For the
most part it was a disappointment for biking and walking advocates who
anticipate major changes in priorities in government agencies. Funding
levels have dropped from 40% to 70% for active transportation and resource
mandates have been eliminated. Federal guidance that validated these
forms of alternate transportation is seriously weakened. If progress is to
continue, advocates at the national, state, and local level must step up and
make a commitment.

I am going to live!
I met with the cardiologist yesterday and he gave me the all clear to ride again. He is not sure why I had the trouble I did, but my heart is in excellent condition, no blockages, damage, etc. There is nothing wrong with my heart that would lead to a heart attack. We are going to diary what goes on during rides over the next month to see if there are any specific conditions that cause that cause the same condition.
So, as a good FOGBEE, I left the doctor's office and went for a ride! It felt great!

BBQ Ride
Looking at the Fogbee calendar, June 30 appears to be the only day I can lead the BBQ ride in June and avoid other organized rides. Anyone up for some riding and BBQ on the hottest day of the year? I'll call ahead for fried pies if you'd like. Click here for more info

BBQ ride this Saturday, June 30
It's this weekend! The fried pies and the hot weather have been ordered. There's a new 50 mile route (BBQ Long Ride) and a leader (Miley) of same. The long riders will start at 8:00. We'll wait to start the shorter route at 8:30 so we'll get done closer to the same time for lunch. The short route is a roughly 31 mile "Lite" ride (BBQ Short Ride ) with no drops and regrouping. There are also options to bail if you get tired or too hot starting at about 21 miles so no excuses. Come ride and eat some BBQ. Heads BBQ is at 1055 Dorris Winters Rd, Pleasant View, TN. As much as possible park along the fence. More information is on the rides page if you need it.

BBQ Ride Needs 50-mile Leader (June 30)
We had such a great turnout last year for the long route that it would be nice to have a leader on that ride that has gotten familiar with the route ahead of time. Any volunteers? I've created a new route that should be just as scenic but perhaps a little easier to follow. You can preview the route on ridewithgps.com. It's called BBQ long route and it's labeled as being in Chapmansboro, TN.

**REMINDER** FOGBEES JERSEYS - Order Now!!!!
Since I have been asked 3 times recently where my FOGBEES Jersey is... :(
(Dont have one, nor does Sarah)
I am assisting Bob G in taking orders and collecting $$ for FOGBEES Jerseys.
Here is the deal - Collectively, we need to order at least ten (10) of the same style jersey (Short sleeve, sleeveless, long sleeve, etc...). After we meet that quota, we can order however many of any other product, but 10 of the same is the min requirement.
We have lots of new riders who should be roughed up and harassed into purchasing one or more of these items, and I am one of them!
Lets try to get this order done by June 30 if possible.
So, please post here or send me an email with what you want to order and Sarah and I will collect it at our rides, you can mail it to me, or ride your bike to our house and hand deliver it.
** Check Them Out here The Fogbees Web Site **
Please make Checks Payable to Demetrius or Sarah Ritt, Bob Glutting, or hand me some cash... if not, ill use my super secret spy satellite access to find you!
Jerseys: Sleeveless $41, Short Sleeve $41, Long Sleeve $52, Trisuite: $78 each

Where the Rubber Meets the Road
After recently changing a flat tire for a Wednesday night rider, I commented that her
paper-thin tire would have continuing flat issues on road riding. Next to one’s helmet, the most important
purchase in terms of safety should be tires.
They provide a level of security when coasting down hills, even if not
blasting at 55.6 mph down Ford Branch Rd, and when alone out in the middle of
the boonies. I suggested she rid herself
of the wimpy OEM tires that came with her bike and purchase something more durable
and puncture resistant. She asked, “What
did I recommend?”
